Well, that's what I did last night to free up this morning to hit the lake. I was there bright and early, but so was a thunderstorm tha blew over the hill just as I was about to get the boat in the water. I decided to wait it out.
After twenty minutes of hail, lightning, thunder, wind and heavy rain I decided to drain the boat before dunking it. While the water ran out, the gear went in.
Of course the weather had an affect on the fish but I was not to be denied. After three hours I did a quick count to be sure I only had my self imposed limit of five crappies and called it a success. The 1.75" small fry go a workout today. Purple/chartreuse tail and bluegill/chartreuse tail got the productive nod. The crappies were high up in the water column abnd I don't think a bait saw more the 2 1/2 feet of depth and these crappies were definitely hunting....when the hit the linewould tick and never stop moving to the side. Fun fishing when the crappies are on a tear like this.
I got one white crappie that taped off at 13.75 inches. She was heavy with spawn and still swims. I poked a big old largemouth right at the edge of a stump. It had to weigh 5 pounds, but on a 7 1/2 foot ultralight crappie rod it sure was fun.
I got the fishing itch scratched just a little bit this morning. I'm thinking a buddy and I will do Friday morning on the water too. Its just really hard to not enjoy getting into a pile of fish using gear that you've crafted yourself.
