How a microwave works
« on: 07/04/12 13:52 UTC »
Here is a link to a wimp.com video where an engineer discusses how a microwave oven works.  Interesting; and it might help explain some of the oddities the group has witnessed in plastic heating.  The part with the cheese is particularly educational.

Never, ever, in ten thousand lifetimes would I ever have thought that I would spend the 4th of July holiday watching a 5 minute, 17 second video on microwave oven technology.  But I did.  And because I did, I now feel old.  I feel old because I enjoyed the video.  I understood very little of what the guy said (way too complicated for my failing brain cells), but I did learn something from the cheese illustration...it's why we stir our plastic.  So, for the rest of whatever time I have left I will always think of this video every time I stir my plastic.

Thanks, Paul.
Until next time.

It also provides an explanation as to why there is a turntable in the microwave without saying why.   I have had several electrical engineers tell me not to put small stuff in the dead center of a microwave.  This helps explain that as well.  At least two old Geezers learned something.

I dont have a turn table in my micro, I must have found the right spot,(it is off center) I do rotate cup after stirring, but I have not had any issues.
