I'll be curious how the size stuff works out. As fishing picks up we should post how we are doing on what sizes.
This isn't a complete list, but just to illustrate a point:
2 over 4 on the 3" Carrot
1 over 8 on the 6" skinny Carrot
Couple under 2 on the normal 6" Carrot
Several around 3 -4 on the 4" Carrot
For whatever reason I don't normally fish a 5" bait. I have no idea why???
There's really no reasoning to it yet. Maybe with more time it will be clearer. My gut is it has more to do with the activity of the fish (or lack of) this time of year than the size of the bait.
Here's the one truth I can tell you about fish, "They will make a liar out of you every time".
Perfect example, I take our preacher to one of my favorite spots, only to find out it had been sprayed and all the vegetation was 100% dead. This wasn't just a little grass I'm talking about. This stuff was so thick you could barely get through it even lifting your TM every now and then. I figured the dead vegetation was zapping the oxygen and the fish would have bolted. I told him, no way are we going to catch a fish here. Maybe 3 casts and a 5lber blows up all over my Croaker. Actually scared me because I wasn't expecting it. In the middle of what looked like a nuked creek.
I have a better story but I'll save it for another day.
For what it's worth, don't put boundaries around your fishing. If you like a bait, fish it. If a creek looks good, fish it. Just fish, and appreciate every second you get to do it.
Tight lines!
