Is this as easy as everyone talks about???

I was thinking about buying the carrot mold kit, would this be to hard for a newbie?

thanks

Ray....Not a huge problem at all, but take a second to look at the thread in this same forum titled 5" skinny carrot since you are considering a carrot kit. There are tricks to all of the molds it seems but this one is about the only one we see questions on. If you know about it ahead of time you can read thru the replies abd be prepared if you encounter any headaches like the ones mentioned in that thread. Most often you'll see people say to top off the mold as Jason does in the thread or to hold a light pressure on the injector for 5-10 seconds after the plunger stops filling the mold. Very basic fixes for a common problem.

^^^ More good advice. I ALWAYS hold pressure on the injector for at least a ten count. Longer on some molds. Ribbontail worms and the 7" Carrot I'll hold for a 20 count. Then I lift the injector up and let a thin stream drizzle out until there's a small puddle at the top of the sprue. Holding pressure on reduces dents, and topping off the sprue prevents air pockets/hollow spots where the bait connects to the sprue.

I just finished up some Black and Blue carrots and some Sand carrots... I have been making these carrot baits for about 5 months now and have had all the problems talked about here...---320 to 330 degrees, inject slowly and hold the pressure for 10 seconds or so and then be viligent to make sure your mold stays topped off..---- three 4 ounce batches and 26 of the 6 in skinnys later no problems at all. Get a good stick thermometer not an IR and you will be good..I use a thermometer that is digital, quick and user friendly..  Good luck my friend. Make some baits, take some pics and share with us....
