Do-It hand pour lead molds
« on: 07/03/13 13:47 UTC »
it has to be a good time for Do-It molds. I get molds made, poured by commercial spin casters and I have to say this is really a great time to hand pour your own jig heads. Jig heads (painted or unpainted) with a good hook can sell for a buck a piece (retail). It's unbelievable how much lead has gone up and cost of getting jig heads made.

I think it's safe to say one could pay for a mold in very short order if he/she pours any amount of baits at all.

There's no doubt I've paid for my molds countless times. Noticed in a store that two 3/4 ounce football head jigs were $5.99. Mine cost $1.65 to make; that's Gammy hook, skirt and powder paint.

I've got 29 mold by Do-It and the have paid for them self's 10,000 times over. Your right you can get  a buck per easy. When I'm fishing Walleye's  in the fall if there is someone fishing next to me and not getting many fish I hand them a jig the same color I have on and in 1 or 2 cast they get a fish the next thing they say is do you have a dozen of them and I say yes I do. And that's how I sell most of what I make. Giving them the first one free has always worked for me. mike
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

I am a Do-It Fanatic!  I don't even want to admit how many molds I own...  my wife could read this LOL!!!

There is no doubt in my mind that I am more successful by making my own lures.  The selections in places like Cabelas and Bass Pro Shop are great.  But even at that, they rarely have the exact thing I am looking for.  Being able to tailor make a bait for EXACTLY what I am trying to do on the water is HUGE!   Being able to make the exact style and weight jig with the exact size hook... making the exact size and style/color spinnerbait with the exact size blades... it can be the difference between success and failure.  I have a series of lakes in northern WI that go crazy for lavender bucktail spinnerbaits with copper blades.... try to find that anywhere!!!

Its also very relaxing for me and the value to that is priceless.  Most of us can't fish everyday.  But making a few baits for next trip or next weekend adds to the anticipation of the next outing!

100% agreement on this. 100%. And the older I get the more the last statement pertains.
