A friend and I took a tour to the big river this morning early. Our target water was a breakwater and a marina. While we did catch fish, most were small and numbers were not high.
Had to fish deep and had to have either a purple/chartreuse small fry or a glow green stinger of another design.
My best crappie taped out at just over 13 inches while my best sunnie was right on at 9". The big fish of the day came to me in the form of a catfish that was right around 11 pounds...it sure found favor with that small fry.
Between a severe cold front and a strong easterly wind that was hitting right in the face as we tried to cast, our fishing was challenging and basically pretty slow. We still had a good time and at least now I know I'm not missing out on a whole lot with the bite being sour. Better days ahead and not that far in the future.
