Old or New ??
« on: 10/23/14 09:35 UTC »
I got to cleaning out my Tackle storage shed 16x20 and I've found stuff I don't ever remember seeing no ideal where or when it came into my fishing stuff anyways this brings up yet another question Should one hang onto the Old or grab onto the new? yep kinda deep question I know but I've got to much time on my hands these days After a 5 year break from day to day fishing other then a couple little club events with a old friend .I've learned to fish with only one hand if you don't thank that's hard try putting your left hand into your pocket and tie on a hook or change split rings on a lure  :-X :-[ even a simple cast will show you what I'm trying to say :'( :-[

Hang on to the old and use it. Chances are the fish had never seen it and will bite it. Now you're showing them something new.

Totally agree with that! Always looking for the "Old" stiff. I stop in at any family run bait shop every time I run across them.

Old stuff works just as well.   Last year we won a tournament throwing a 4 inch bad pro shops lizard in tequila sunrise that I know I bought 18 years ago.   Only have 2 packs left.   Bought a couple cases of them when a bait shop went up for sale.   He ordered them by mistake so he said.   I don't throw anything hunting or fishing related, just ask my wife!

Baits/Lures that worked in the past will work now.  Although we keep coming up with things that work, what appeals to fish doesn't change with the trends.

I've been on a kick lately with tossing out surplus and condensing my stock.  I could sell it, but that takes longer than it's worth, usually...I give it away...and I'm not done yet.

For the last year I have been taking tackle I have made and don't use or tackle that's old but usable down to a local sporting goods/bait shop who sponsors activity days for kids thru local youth groups. I buy a lot of working rod/reel combos at garage sales which I clean up and spool new line, then give to this cause. Instead of just tossing this old tackle, maybe find a way o donate to a program lie this.
