12" Stump Thumper rigging
« on: 10/04/11 08:01 UTC »
This is just a shout out to see how many different ways those of you who are using the 12" Stump Thumper are rigging it.  I am realizing my stubbornness in the size line I use and the fact I T-rig just about all my soft plastics may not be my M.O. moving forward  ;).. Plus, since I am still a rookie bait maker, and I appreciate the wisdom here, I thought I'd throw it out there!
-Blessings and thanks!

I have the open pour molds but are rigging them the same as I would if I had the injected bait.

T-rigged with a 6/0 or 7/0 straight shank hook. The guys on KY Lake were killing the hawgs during the summer on the ledges. Weight will depend on how deep I am fishing but always lean towards the lightest available. C-rigged it should be a beast also.

I did try some on a shaky head and while the action is good, the hook size on most heads is 3/0 or 4/0 and just did not do the worm justice. I did catch but I also missed (as happens with a big worm lots).

I think you are dead on, this is a t-rigged worm or c-rigged worm.

Jim

I appreciate that, Jim.  Around here, nobody uses the real big worms, so I am going to have a blast field testing these.  The last time I went out and threw some stuff the fish hadn't seen sparked quite the conversation back at the launch.   ;D
I have never used a 7/0 hook.  I think I am going to get some for these thumpers as well as possibly the 7" Wutz-It.

By the way, did you get that crazy long email I sent to you a few days ago?

If you need some thumpers, let me know.

I have the email but just haven't done my job yet :D

LOL on the doing your job part.. :)

I appreciate that offer Jim!  I do have the mold, and I love how smoothly it injects.  I have only shot a few, but am very anxious to get out there and shock some locals.  The science behind why the big worms makes perfect sense to me, but like I said, for whatever reason they just are really unknown around here.  That is the exciting part for me, it's like trailblazing, but with plastic.   :D
