Inconsistancy in color with using same recipe.
« on: 01/06/15 17:22 UTC »
Started injecting about 3 weeks ago as a hobby and ran into an issue when I reordered colorants from the same supplier. The first colorants I bought were in 1oz bottles. I used 24 drops of one color and 8 drops of another color in a Junebug recipe in 6oz of plastic along with stabilizer and glitter. Repeatedly made this recipe with very consistent results until the primary colorant was gone so I reordered a pint of each of the colorants from the same manufacturer to save some money. Now I can't get the color back. I've attempted thoroughly mixing the colorants by violent shaking the pint containers before transferring to smaller containers. No success so far. Going to try and add a nut to each pint of colorant and mix again to see if that helps.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Chances are good that you're dealing with spate batches of colorant that were ordered at different times by the company you bought the colorant from. That is one of the challenges with colorant....getting an exact copy when you re-order color. As far as I know there is no promise made that , say junebug, in a particular brand of colorant is going to be identical if the supplier runs out and has to re-order. Using those pints I'd try to get as close as possible and then lock in on that recipe. Pints will last a while unless you're making thousands of baits in one color.

To get the most consistent colors each time. You should weigh your color in a separate container each time you mix up a batch. Counting drops is good but sometimes your drops will be bigger or smaller, causing an inconsistentcy.  Try it and see what happens.  You can pic up a digital scale for like 10 bucks from harbor freight.  Hope this helps.
