Orange glow
« on: 08/06/17 10:12 UTC »
I want to do a 'glow orange' for crayfish pinchers and tube tails.
Do-It glow instructions call for using florescent orange then adding the glow powder.
I have been using lurecraft orange, because it is available.
I know I could do it both ways and see for myself the results but there is so much great info on this forum I just had to ask. lol
Has anyone used anything but florescent base when creating glow baits?

The glow color is the same regardless of what color you put it in.  The more opaque the color the more glow you need.  For the most part just adding glow to clear plastic doesn't result in a very nice color so adding other colorant helps it look better when it's in day light.  Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say here.

Thank you Mike.
In my mind I understand exactly what you mean!
What would adding orange highlight, along with the orange glow do to the fluorescent color?

You probably won't see any difference in the color during the day with the glow. The hi lite will add a little extra orange pearly glow in the sunlight depending on how much you put in.  I myself like a bit of gold hi-lite in orange.

No problem Steve. Just remember to write your recipes down so you know how to duplicate the color when you get it right.  There's nothing more frustrating than making an awesome color and then not remembering how you made it.  I know this from experience lol.

Here Steve....this is a true glow orange in that it glows orange. The pigment un-charged by light is a dirty orange color that should work into a fluorescent, transparent orange plastic without much trouble. The products from this company are super high quality and is where I get my glow purple, which in getting this link reminded me that I need to order more.

In four ounces of plastic I'd start with about 1/4 teaspoon of the pigment while keeping the plastic as transparent as possible. This woul work great as a laminate or as claws/tails.

Thank you for this cT.
I followed your advise with this company and 'purple' and it worked out great!

UV powder won't change the character of glow pigments so no.

This is how I do it and it's way more simple then you think. And I put them on a jig that looks like this.
