tail color and an e-core ina 2 1/2" Fry
« on: 02/29/20 15:09 UTC »
I had to try to get my chartreuse tail on an e-core and finally managed it. Lots of putz work but they look not bad.

The clear body color is done with another white particle color shift called Purple Fusion. It doesn't go to another color but shows the beautiful purple as the light's angle changes....just not too well in this picture. The particle size is larger than that of the blue-to purple delta color shift I used in the other e-core pics and makes getting the color to show well a real trick in good light, but its there. I may try adding a bit more pigment to the cup and see if that brings it around. You can see the purple in a couple areas of both baits but it doesn't seem to follow the black real well. My focus here was to get the chartreuse tail, not so much the color shift. And I got my tail.

I first shot the mold to get the tail pieces, then I shot the mold with the nails to get my body sections. Once the tails and bodies were trimmed and placed back in the mold I shot the black. The nails I used meat that I could only do one side of the runner. My first challenge was that the nails would migrate to the side I wanted the hollow body and the heads would shut off plastic flow so the bodies were only partially filled. I finally left the other side bodies in place and super glued the nail heads to the ends of the full bodies, then injected to get the hollow ones. Then in order to get the flow thru the bodies I had to shorten the bodies at the tail merger as well as the tails. Eventually things came together. This is probably not a process if one is thinking of making money but it a great way to get tail colors as well as an e-core. You'll just have to take my word for it that the purple really does come out in this combination but the camera and the sun seem to defeat me in capturing it.

I did another nice color too but the camer's battery dies so you'll see that after the charge is finished.

Here's the other color shifting color. Its called King Pin and goes from gold to orange to red. The particle size is much larger than the one used in the picture ahead if this and here it comes off as almost a glitter. Its super pretty brushed on a black bait but again seems to get lost in the clear even over the black core. I'm waiting until the sun gets lower in the sky and will see if another picture does a better job of showing it off. Makes a nice bait anyway especially with the chartreuse tail.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Look closely at the eyes. There's a small gold dot on the edge of the pupils that I didn't know was there until I studied my pictures. I went down and pulled the cards of eyes and be darned if every single eye on all eight cards of them don't have that tiny gold spot.

I do know now that my little brass nails are making more work for me than a piece of measured brass rod, so tomorrow I head out to find some brass rod stock.

I figured out why the two color shifters I posted yesterday had such a weak showing. They're bother of larger particle size and without loading the plastic heavily with their pigments they just won't stand out too well. Brushed on as a dry pigment they do very well over black but there the pigment is super concentrated. In the clear at the load I used for all of the color shifting pigments in just not dense enough in the clear to react well. So....onward and upward. More play time is seen in the future. Maybe even today. But at least I figured out why these last two bait trials were borderline duds.

I have some other color shifters that are very fine particle that need messing with and I'm curious to see how they do in the e-core's instance.
