Into the deep blue
« on: 07/13/21 12:06 UTC »
Went on a trip Sunday out of Venice, Louisiana going after yellowfin tuna, Mahi and some billfish. Caught plenty of tuna and Mahi but never could get any of the billfish to stay hooked up. Was a really fun experience for me. I had never been that far out ~80 miles off shore into the Gulf past Deepwater Horizon now renamed The Delta.

Tuna fishing sure is different than bass fishing! Those fish are mean and they pull hard! The Mahi fishing reminded me a lot of fishing jerkbaits for bass and I had a lot of fun doing that. All in all a great trip and can’t wait to do it again!

Oh man I would be all in on that. The wife and I went out one day and caught some Tuna and the guide cut them up and we ate some raw on the way in. The best tuna I've ever ate by far.

We did the same and it was hands down the best sushi I have ever had.  The meat was so tender and almost had a buttery texture to it.  Absolutely incredible.

When I got back to my house I skinned all the chunks and vacuum sealed a lot of large chunks and then cut a bunch of steaks and sealed those 2 or 3 to a bag.  I also took a couple and threw them in a quick marinade of soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, sambal oelek, honey and fresh black pepper before searing it a little too long ending up at medium rare instead of rare but oh man was it absolutely delicious.
