cabin trip, second time around

Bust as far as fishing is concerned. Nobody was catching anything while we were up there. We left Monday morning in front of a serious heat wave. Two Harbors had temps well into the 90's on Monday with dew points in the mid-70's. Kind of thick air. Of course, between the temps, humidity and the wonderful wind we got absolute terrors of storms thru that night. Tons of damage done over a wide area in Minnesota and upper Wisconsin.

Lake Superior's water temps are still very cold and that is holding up the usual migration of cohos and lakers. I think I had a bump, probably a herring, on Weds afternoon but that's it. In the Two Harbors area the water temp is hardly 44 degrees. A few miles north at Grand Marias the water is a numbing 37 degrees on Weds. I don't think the fish like the cold, lol.

I did get to put a fair amount of time in using the #8612 7/16 Shad Diver and can say its a sweet bait on a light line. I use #6 mono to cast off the breakwater and was getting maybe 100 foot casts. On the retrieve the bait dug right down to 10-12 feet on a medium retrieve. No rolling, no stalling and I tried cranking like crazy to try and get the lure to act up. Nada. A little more water temp and it'll produce.

Next trip in maybe three weeks.
