I've never made my own scent, but if I wanted to, here's the 1st place my mind goes...
1st, I'd start with about 5 lbs of Fresh Shrimp. Pop the heads and peel all of 'em. Save the heads and shells. Cook shrimp. Eat. Save the leftovers (if any). Then You should start with an oil that Immulsifies...a natural oil that mixes with water. I have a bit of Shad Oil so I'd use that as my base. Say, 16 ozs, set it aside.
Put all Shrimp heads and shells in a pot, add maybe a quart of water, cover. Cook down for maybe 30 minutes, and using a 'Tater Masher, mash the heads to squeeze the juice and fat out, maybe every 5 minutes or so. Put a bowl under a strainer (under a collander), dump heads and shells into the strainer. The juice should drain into the bowl under the strainer unless the strainer is malfunctioning. Mash the heads to get more out of them. Throw away the heads and shells, or compost them. Dump the juice back into the pot and simmer-down until thick, dump Your oil into the Shrimp Gravy. Continue to cook on low to medium heat until the moisture is gone. You could filter this thru a Brass Coffee Filter Basket if smooth and clean is desired, but I'm sure that's optional.
These would be my 1st thoughts...
