Postal rates changed yesterday....
« on: 01/28/13 12:29 UTC »
Just a heads up. Might need to adjust your website or how you charge...

New domestic retail pricing for Priority Mail Flat Rate products include:

•Small box — $5.80
•Medium box — $12.35
•Large box — $16.85
•Large APO/FPO box — $14.85
•Regular envelope — $5.60
•Legal envelope — $5.75
•Padded envelope — $5.95

First class went up to. Used to be $1.95 for the envelopes I send but now is $2.07. Never could find a fast and hard number on the increase there. Delivery confirmation is included now though on first class...

My friend just posted something on facebook about this.  Like me, he ships tropical fish.  He had this to say... "Anyone else notice the USPS postal rate increases that went into effect yesterday. Holy moley... Something is not right. I had a box go to Florida that calculated at $46 for PRIORITY MAIL, and $35 for Express!"

If you're shipping non-flat rate boxes, might want to check pricing on express!

Most of my shipping is done in either the flat-rate small box or in a 4X7 padded mailer. The box of course has fixed postage. The padded mailer shipping varies by weight but once in a great while I need to ship some odd shaped boxed package and check on a couple options. It amazes me at times that the postage can be so much less for those oddball packages than the flat rate.
