Another one

I'm one of those people who have problems with certain colors. Brown is one of those but I am slowly starting to find some favor in it. Like the Super Fry from yesterday, this one and the companion bait seen with it, are simple, multi-layered colors that don't get real wild but are just nice on the eyes. Hopefully the fish will find then easy on their eyes as well.

The belly is a fairly transparent pearl with ever-so slight stain using yellow....just plain old yellow. Stabilizer is used to help keep it clean and the black glitter [.015] is added liberally but not excessively.

The later-line band is the same heavy smoke-black that was used in yesterday's bait.

The back color is based on 4 ounces of plastic with 20 drops of pumpkin and 12 drops of mf brown mayfly. Gold, green and a small amount of red .015 glitter are added.

Little by little I am starting to like some of the browns that I have made and for the most part the crappies don't mind brown either. These larger baits are headed to walleye water later this month so we'll see if brown is on their menu.

I've always heard that any color is ok for walleye as long as it is chartruse. Just wondering what you think; would those baits be better for walleye  with a transparent chartruse belly? Im going to guess that water color has a lot to do with it. It use to be you never heard of anyone fishing with purple or dark blue; now it's one of the go to colors. Is things changing or are we getting smarter on color selection?

Fantastic!!!! They look like creek chubs!!!!! I'm 100% serious, I'll try to find a picture or drawing but they look like just like them!!!! I'm not sure of the real name of the minnows but I can tell you the fish loved them and it was every fish!! We caught trout, smallmouth, catfish, and pickerel using those minnows, I bet those get bit and in a big way, awesome color and pouring skill!!!

Toad, I think that's a Jacobs mold.

The split tail is a Jacobs 3" silverfish. So you are aware, the tail lies horizontal but I have them cocked up at an angle so they can be seen.

MuskieGary....I was of that school for a long time until I started fishing late into the winter with plastics and learned that chartreuse isn't always the answer. Pro blue, pearl, firecracker, purplecracker, smoke.....I could go on for a while on colors not having chartreuse that are dangerous during the cold weather. The biggest thing is over-fishing them, over-jigging is more to the point. I gentle lift drop on a tight line with the lift being no more than 18" is key to getting hit when the water is icy cold. I always have used 50 degrees as the root for a good plastics bite to start up in the fall and the colder the water gets as the fall falls into winter, the better the bite but the presentation has got to be very subtle. On the river I can use two rods. One I dead stick the other I jig real gently.

There may be occasions when chartreuse is going to work real good but when the water is super cold the other colors seem to work beter. I think its got something to do with their metabolism being slow and they are less prone to reflex hit and will study the bait longer and closer before hitting, hence that easy going presentation.
