The woods is calling

  The woods is calling but I'm out fishing. I usually trade my poles for a gun this time of year but all I can think about is fishing, and now that I'm pouring my own baits Its gotten worse. My only problem with this is I dont know how to catch bass in the fall, my go to baits are not producing, and I'm no good with crank baits or jigs. Any ideas?

depends on where you live and water temp. For me, I'm in the south and we should be fishing main creeks and back in them following Shad. Spinnerbaits are good this time of year, really anything should be good.

I don't know what your goto baits are but try downsizing them, that may help but when things get tough a small finesse jig or shaky head with a 4.5" finesse worm is a good way to get finicky fish to bite.

  Where I live in Ohio the water temps haven't drop enough yet to make it a fall bite yet. This cold front is going to help though. The bass will be where the shad are. The flipping bite will slow down that time of year. Most the guys that are going to win the tournaments this time of year are going to be cranking. I like a square bill crank bait  on the end of trees hanging over deeper water. When the sun comes out you'll see clouds of bait all balled up over deep water. The bass will ambush them when they swim by. When the water gets colder go to the backs of coves. That water will be warmer and the bait will be in there big time. Rattle traps, buzz baits or my favorite a chatter bait with a fluke on it will catch good fish. Just remember this time of year the bass are feeding on shad. When the sun is out the shad will come to the surface to warm up and it's easy to see where they're at. Just follow them and you'll find fish.

 I live in southern MI, the weather has been mild for the most part, so water temps are around the mid 60s, but temps change fast on the lake I usually fish ( 90% of it is about 4ft deep). Last time I was out I gave up on bass and went for panfish with some success but with the lake only having one deep hole (and thats only 10-12ft deep) I only caught small bluegills. I think I will try a different lake. My fishing buddy is just going to have to deal with it. He always wants to go to the last place he caught a fish and will complain the whole time when I take him to a different spot. Maybe I should fish alone

DF...good fishing buddies can be hard to come by.   Teach him how to catch a bass.

 He's family so I thought taking him fishing would help us connect, and for the most part we have a good time. Ive shown him everything I know about fishing and tie his hooks on, help him rig his worms straight, and I usually get out fished, must be that front seat on the boat is lucky.
