New Shad Head Jigs
« on: 11/14/13 14:43 UTC »
These are the first pours off my new shad head mold, they are 1/8oz with a size 3/0 Eagle Claw 3886 Black platinum hook. I have a pic of the jig and then a pic of the jig on a swim bait, I have to tell you, it is a winner. The swim bait in the pic is 3.75", I didn't take my time rigging these but when I did, I simply cut a small sliver, less than 1/8" off the head and it fits it like it was made for it, I also tried them on a Gene Larew Sweet Swimmer. This is perfect as there is no collar so the weight is all forward which will give you optimum control and the guys throwing A-rigs will love this, I don't use an A-Rig an I already love it, thanks Do-it!!!!!

Small, those are KILLER Podna!

I have the 662 (5-cav.) and the 660 (4-cav.).  Excellent bait, but I have found that both of those molds have to be shot pretty fast for the Tails to consistently fill out completely.  Now that I do that, almost every bait comes out 100%.  The cavities get real thin just ahead of the Tail and the plastic starts to cool down fast, then it has to try to mash/spread to fill out the Tail, and this was resulting in (for me) the Top and Bottom Tips of the Tail not being complete in OVER HALF of the baits.

No matter!  Totally diggin' that work.  That GP/Chartreuse (?) is BANGIN'.

Very nice color co-ordination.
Now what we need is a Do-It  paddle tail mold to perfectly match that head mold  :D.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I do try to make a decent bait, some look ok other not so but if the fish approve then I'm happy. School Master, those are powder paint, I can't use a regular air brush and I like powder so that is what I use. I apply the powder by using a Badger model 260 hobby sand blaster to spray the powder sort of like an air brush. You can't get fine detail like a normal air brush and normal paint but you can blend colors pretty good as well as fade from one color to another and I often adjust the air pressure and hold the bait a little further away and that will let me mist a color, like if you spray white, then spray pearl over it and then turn the air up and mist a candy color over the pearl the effect you get looks great and it doesn't even look like powder paint. I'm just an amateur when it comes to painting, Mo Quack is Rembrandt as are most other guys here, I'm just a powder paint guy trying to get what I can out of it but the finish is tough and it is great for single colors.

I usually get my hooks from this link: http://www.captainhookswarehouse.com/index.cfm?page=home   I also use LPO, which is Lure Parts Online, LPO has the best price on Owner deep throat jig hooks but the captain gets a lot of my business.
