Clear Dipping with UV
« on: 01/20/14 14:01 UTC »
I usually clear dip my frogs so I can put eyes on them and give them a slick finish. Why not add UV to the clear for dipping?

These set of pics is a craw I clear dipped the tail section with UV. My thinking is the fish may take in more of the craw with a tail dipped in clear UV than just the first half of it....

I have added uv enhancer to all of my cover dips for a year now.

My question is this, does the UV Blast powder help catch more fish in the daylight? Is this something we should be adding to all our baits. (More expense but worth it if it produces more fish)

In addition to the cover dip I am adding it to all of my transparent baits. All of the pearls and whites too.

I add it to transparent colors, whites, pearls and to clear dip. It can be added to any color though. The clearer or more transparent the color, the less you'll need to add. Cut the head off a regular match from a matchbook. That's about how much you need in clear or a transparent color.

Yes go light. I used about 1/32 of a teaspoon in 4 oz because I didn't think it would matter much. Bait went from brown with pearl to purple in my shed lol.

either that or the pearl made it reflect more. I've only put it in pearl colors and only today so I hope someone else has experienced the same thing

The uv light that this stuff enhances, or concentrates, is light we cannot see. Fish can. However, the light we can see is made up of certain colors that border right on the edge of that invisible light. Call it borderline uv light. The enhancer does such a great job that this borderline uv light becomes very visible to us under certain circumstances. This bluish-purple glow or ghost color that's seen when cover dips using the enhancer are applied to baits is proof that the enhancer has been added in an appropriate ratio to the plastic. The same amount will do transparent and light color plastics well too. More opaque colors like a heavy watermelon or pumpkin seed and solid colors can tolerate a wee bit more of the enhancer, but there you'll need to explore just how much is enough using a black light. Under black light if the solid baits have that bluish-purple aura, they have enough of the enhancer added.
