Question for Do-it on a mold
« on: 01/03/14 09:54 UTC »
Do you all make custom molds per customers request?  I have a customer who is wanting to have one of your molds modified per his request and I was asked to contact you to see if it were possible.  I'm wondering about patent infringements but will need to talk to you about what he wants and to which mold.

I can tell you on the forum what he wants,,,,,,or......

You can pm me if you want to keep this off the forum.

Thanks
God Bless!

We're sorry but due to the way Do-It lead molds are manufactured we're not set up to do a custom operation.  All lead molds are poured in a foundry off of a pattern.  This enables us to mass produce relatively inexpensive molds.  There is little if any machining that is done to a Do-It lead mold.  We do cast a Blank Mold.  You would need a custom machine shop to mill it to your specifications.

Jerry,
Thanks for the reply.  I was thinking that was probably the way you made them but my customer wanted me to ask.  I'll let him know.  He will probably just modify the mold that is close to what he is wanting with a dremel which is what I suggested to begin with.

Thanks
God Bless!

I personally prefer the CNC machined molds.
The ones I have are great and you can have them made however you want.
Certainly nowhere near as cheap as a do-it mold but the quality you get from a good mold maker is unsurpassed by sandcast molds.
Do-It makes some good molds but they can't please everyone or make what every single angler wants. A custom CNC machined mold certainly can though.
