Dennis,
I assume the size 1 is the smallest size hook? In the pic are you rigging it weedless? Would it work as a topwater in a small river for smallmouth?
Thanks

The size 1 is the smallest hook. I am rigging it Weedless. I have never fished for smallmouth mainly because we don't have them in south Georgia. But to answer your question you can fish this bait topwater. If nothing else order a sample bag from Jason and test them out. I have only made a few colors at this time but if I have one that you use I could put you something together to try.

Thanks Dennis. I ordered a sample bag from Jason and got 2 small croakers. They look so cool. I just didn't have a hook small enough. Now I know what size hook to get. Don't you guys have a Swanee (sp) bass?

I ordered a bag of 1.75" croakers and have been using them on crappie lead head jigs and they have been killing the small bass, big bluegills and crappies. They make a LOT of sounds in the water with those little legs beating up a storm.

I hoping to get out and do some crappie fishing this weekend with them. I'm confident they will do the job.

The size one hook that I linked is the only style that I found that fits. The other size one hooks that they carry are to long. So don't just order a size one hook and think that it will work.

After a little research it looks like I have to drive 3 to 4 hours north or south to catch smallmouths. There are smallmouth in north Flordia and north Georgia and me in the middle lol

That mold is on my long list of GOTTA HAVE it molds.

I did however get out and fish one that came in a sample pack. My son and I caught 20 or so smallmouth bass on it until it was torn and un-fishable. We fished it on a little 1/32 oz jig with a #6 hook. Cast and retrieve it pretty quick, fish will chase and gobble it up. I'm confident I could catch over 100 smallies in a day on that bait, it will just take more then one bait to do it =). We caught mostly smaller fish but some were decent size to.

I would recommend this mold / bait to anyone fishing for Crappie, Smallmouth and probably trout as well.

Are you using this as a top water or a swim, given the use of any weight? I guess I am asking how are you fishing the 1.75 croaker? I got one in a sample bag from Jason and can't wait to try it.

I fished it on a little 1/32 oz jig with a #6 hook. Depending on the brand of hook you use (they are not all exactly the same) you most likely want to stick with a #6, unless you nose hook the bait.

You could fish it top water if you want, I guess it depends where and what your fishing for. If you need more weight for a longer cast or to get down deep you could always fish it on a carolina rig.

Andrew -- how are you fishing it? Top water or in the watercolumn, and if so how fished? What size hook and/or weight?

I've been fishing the croaker just like any other crappie bait....most of the hits come on the retrieve because the little bugger makes a TON of noise!

I don't fish for crappie, sorry.
Still interested as to how you fish it?
