I disagree with painting the blades. I've always had better luck with a gold and silver blade combo. With the blades you have on it you could burn that bait. For smallmouth it would be perfect. The only time I use painted blades are either all white or one white and one yellow for muddy water.

I'm a firm believer in non-painted blades myself, Lamar.  I fish a lot of muddy or stained water and gold is my go to color.  Solid painted blades, orange is a hot color for me, yellow is pretty good too.  Using solid colors, I would not want the painting scheme I mentioned.  However, using the candy color powder paint lets the blade shine through and gives a different look than a solid painted blade.  Last summer I found a pretty cheap/generic spinnerbait in excellent condition (really, looks more like they hung it in that tree on the first cast out of the package) while fishing a river.  Hammered blades, 1 gold willow 1 silver Colorado.  Chartreuse, green, white color pattern on a crappy skirt.  Not my kind of spinnerbait, but maybe useful in the right conditions.  Recently I coated the blades with candy lime and it completely changed the look to something that just might catch fish.  The blades look like they actually have more shine than they did before.
