Jim,

I don't disagree with what you are saying.  Your premise assumes the air is either in the tip of the injector, or back against the plunger.  If everything is done correctly, and the injector is working properly, this will be the case and there will be no issues.

However, if air is somewhere in between the tip and plunger (actually in the plastic somewhere in the tube), regardless of how it got there, if you don't get it out prior to injecting, it will end up in your bait.

I think using you, Frank, and others at that level is a really point.  This is the level of skill most of us are trying to attain.  It's good to know it's possible, but it would be a rare person that would pick up an injector and be there day 1.  That was the point of trying to illustrate some troubleshooting techniques.  Now the source has been narrowed, it will be easier to focus on how to correct it.

The advanced tips and videos that you and other more experienced share are invaluable.  I know I have learned a ton from you in many different areas.  I'm sure others have as well.

Remember I have only been injecting a short time. I was all hand pour before. When I started injecting, I dint purge then. Just suck up the plastic and go. Still don' t know how air could get anywhere but right behind the plunger as the plastic will keep it there due to viscosity. That would all be true if the injector is functioning properly.

Injecting a mold really is not a skill in my mind or to me. My son,  11 now, has been injecting molds without an issue. He just grabbed the injector, sucked up plastic and injected. No instructions or special requirements.

There are hundreds of you tube videos from beginners to beyond. You to an tell who is just starting out from their bench top organization. Not one purges their injector prior to injecting.

I feel certain the equipment is made to be able to shoot molds with no experience, just safety precautions prior to use.

We will soon find out as I am ordering another injector and we will do a battle of the injectors test.  Is it the man or the machine?   :D

After all the itterations I had with BassDetective; and Jason solving the issue; I gave my injecting process some thought.  I do not purge but a very tiny bit, if any.  If I know I have picked up air during the drawing of plastic by letting the injector clear the plastic; I inject all the plastic back into the pyrex and start over.  I have noticed that often there is some air in the injector right at the end of an ejection cycle.  I "figured" it is the air in the nozzle when I filled the injector.  The nozzle is full of air when you first start pulling plastic. This you cannot do anything about. I keep my injector pointed down to "keep" this air in the non nozzle end of the injector.  I always keep the injector pointed nozzle down.  I can see how this air could shift inside the tube if you move the injector around in a "verticle twisting manner".
