« on: 06/19/17 21:11 UTC »
I have the 3.5 inch caney creek  frog mold, but am having a hard time findong a suitable hook for the 3. 5 inch bait. All the hooks I have looked at are too large.Does any body know of a hook or rig that would work?

I made a similar post concerning the es frogs,   I think it was Lamar that responded that he uses a screw in 3/0 swimbait hook to rig his..  I have some on order (be here tomorrow).  I will let you know how they work,  I am  presently using a standard 3/0 EWG hook and have played around with it enough that it works but not totally to my satisfaction.  Stay tuned

I use the Owner Rig N Hook 3/0 for my frog baits. Maybe they will work for the Caney Creek frog you have.

I do not have the mold mentioned but I have the 4" Croaker molds and I use the Mustad 9167BLN 4/0 Hook screwlocked to the nose.  Rides perfect.  Happy customers as well with the same setup.

Plastic plays a big role of course.  Some plastics float much better than others.

Well my shipment came in.  I got two different styles of hooks-the Berkeley fusion 3/0 and the gamma 3/0 weighted.  Neither hook worked in the es frog (too long).  Fortunately they fit perfectly in my 3.5 inch Stanley Ribbits.  I still have two more styles of hooks coming but I don't expect them until thurs or fri.  All of these are the screw in style.

Thanks a lot for that post DF.  Answered a lot of questions and let me know that I was on the right track (I have been coming up between the legs, it was the only way I could get it to sit correctly on the hook.  I was searching through my stash of old hooks this morning and found one lone hook that was perfect except it was a thin wire hook and would bend way too easily.  I hope the OP got what he needed out of this.

Success at last!  I got my other hook order in today and the Owner twist lock (model #5132-131) in size 3/0 is a perfect match.  Hell, it looks like it was made specifically for this bait.  Happy camper.
