Hooks & Heads on the Swim Shad

I see many wonderful swim shad pictures.  Really great work by some talented board members.
What "hooking method" are you using?   Pictures anyone ?

I just ordered over $50 worth of these:

http://www.gophertackle.com/mushroomjig.html

The look great on the Swim Shad, Wittle Wutz-it and any of the craw patterns.

I started using the light weight versions/small hook size on my CCM Gliders last summer and really liked them. They hold the plastic really well. They were also good on the Mad Dad 3 XL and on 6" skinny carrots. I was cutting the front of the baits flat...and then crazy gluing them on with glue on the barbs and the back/flat side of the head. They hung on like grim death!

When I get my order of the bigger hook sizes, I will take some pics.

Thanks Andrew -  Thats the Do-It  Worm Nose Jig Mold.  Modified to accept heavier hooks where needed  I guess.  Glued with what glue?  I have had a come apart with my glue sinse the weather got cold.  It doesn't want to bind.

I just took this pic in the house so sorry about the shoddy camera work, and this is on a 4/0 hook.  It needs a 3/0 but I was working with a bunch of 4/0 jigs and saw this post so I grabbed one from nearby to show:

Is that a weedless jighead without the weed guard?  I don't recognize the head.

Yeah, it's a poison tail.  I have a pile that needs to be painted, weedguards epoxied, and eyes put on.  It is funny, though.  If you hold it up just right with the eyes on and no weedguard it looks like he's going  :o

I did not realize the poison tail was that blunt in the nose.  I don't have that mold ( yet ).

The idea of a swimbait is to get it to swim flat and realisticly, especially at slow speeds. A jig hook will make it nose dive. Better off with a properly designed rear  weighted swimbaight hook.

Thanks - another modified Do-It mold.
Someone has modified a Do-It Bullet Nose Jig - filled in the barbs and recut the mold to take a coil.  And done a fine job with the modification. This mold as modified is a lot like the Screw-Loc Worm Nose Mold ( A mold I have ).  Or - Do-It has released a new mold I don't know about.
I looked hard at this mold; went with the  Screw-Loc Worm Nose because the hook is not "off the nose".  For cast and retrieve this mold set up has an advantage.  Good hook selection too.

For the alabama rig, I want an "exposed" hook set-up for easy hook-ups. These heads swim the swim shads great and the hooks are the main reason I bought these... STOUT and sharp!

I'd be happy to send you an unfinished one so you can inspect before you buy the mold.  ...just PM me your mailing address and I'll get it out in the mail Monday.

I think the lack of a hook slot is causing people concern with going with a swimbait hook.   Unless I miss my guess, most are looking at this bait with "Alabama Rig" in the back of their mind.  The rig will resolve that issue.  On a steady slow retreive; I think a light jighead will run pretty flat.  Real slow; you are correct for sure.
