Colors and Glitter combos???
« on: 01/25/12 11:10 UTC »
Hi everyone,

I'm definitely a newbie at this and was just wondering if anyone has any basic color/glitter combonations that work well?

I'm thinking about getting the "starter kit" and purchasing an additional color and thinking about making carrots and frogs.

Any suggestions of 3 starter colors and 2 glittersizes and colors would be very helpful :-)

Cheers,
Bryan

Boy o Boy....you are really releasing the dogs! I'll be interested in how many...and how many different responses you get!

Here's my 2 cents worth:
CCM Watermelon (NB)
CCM Black (NB)
CCM Brown (NB)

Glitter:
Red (Watermelon red flake is my #1 color)
Silver (great in black, or clear carrots!)

Molds (even though you didn't ask).
The 6" Skinny carrot is a great Texas rig, jig head and wacky worm
I have the 3.5" Croaker and it was great for bass and Northern Pike (a little to good for Northern Pike...darn things won't leave it alone ...so I have to use a wire leader ...or get bit off a lot...and the wire leader is a pain in the slop!)

Both are easy to mold (the Skinny Carrot is in the "super easy to mold" category!!!)

Good luck!!

Andy

Hey Bryan...welcome to the forum.  My three favorite colors would be:

     1.  Baby Bass
     2.  Green Pumpkin
     3.  Watermelon

My glitter choices would be:

     1.  Medium Red
     2.  Medium Black
     3.  Medium Gold

I tend to agree with Andy re his mold choices.

I would also suggest you stay with CCM products because the products are exceptional and the company is fantastic to deal with.  I'd also suggest you start saving money because you'll want to buy more stuff soon.  This is a great hobby and I think you'll like it a lot.  Good pouring.
Until next time.

Denny

Welcome!

Colorant:
1) Watermelon
2) Pearl
3) Black

Glitter:
.040 Black
.008 Red

This will let you make some awesome green, black or white (pearl) frogs with pearl bellies if wanted, Watermelon, Watermelon Red, and something close to Baby Bass Carrots.  You can use the black to add a darker shade to any of the colors.  All should work well on pretty much any water around the country.

Tight lines!

colors

watermelon
black
blue

glitter

black med.
blue med
red fine.

And x2 on saving your money for other colors and molds.  I started just to make a few baits so i could have the color i wanted and now have 15 colors and dont think that is enough.  Jason and everyone at ccm is great to deal with top notch.

Pearl has to be one.  Frog and carrot belly if nothing else.  Jason says black, I hate to think I might disagree with the master; but I might go with a Brown instead  -  Green,  Brown, Pearl for colors.   Black .040, Red .008 or .015 for glitter.  But; you will go from here pretty quickly  :D.

I also agree on

Watermelon
Brown
White pearl

You can mix the watermellon and a little brown to get your green pumpkin.

040 black
015 red
015 gold

Have fun....Bill

All of these responses sound good to me!

If I may, I would like to offer a bit of advice-
(this comes from my own personal experience)

1) Go get the smallest sauce pan you have and fill it with water, then boil it.  Keep track of how long it takes to boil.  Now, go fill up your hot water heater with cold water, and stick it on a small campfire and keep track of how long it takes to boil.

Obviously the small sauce pan is much better in this test.   8)

I am one that tends to "boil the ocean" as my wife affectionately describes.... So the fact you are going with just 2 molds and just a few colors is spot on!  Also, the advice on saving some funds to purchase more colors and molds is equally as smart- you WILL want to expand,.  It's the nature of this love.  Otherwise, you may quickly find yourself boiling the ocean....which is not real efficient.  ???

Keeping it real simple for ya.... How about 1 cup Plastic - 40 drops of Green Pumpkin - a dash of .40 black flake. You'll catch fish in any lake with this recipe. Design of the bait doesn't matter either.  ;D ;D ;D By the way, Welcome aboard!

A big thank you to everyone for your helpful feedback. I think I'm going to go with Watermelon, Pearl and Brown for colors  AND  Black and Red for glitter.
