Plastisol Weight Ounces to gallons

Aloha Everyone,

I am trying to find out how many baits I can make per gallon and this may sound like a stupid question.  But does anyone know how many ounces of plastisol come in a gallon?

I have a 5 ounce bait that I am making a mold for and want to know how many baits I can make.

Is it still 128 ounces per gallon?  which comes out to about 25 baits?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The two most commonly used units of weight (or mass) measurement for cooking in the U.S. are the ounce and the pound. Do not confuse the ounce of weight with the fluid ounce, because they are not the same; there is no standard conversion between weight and volume unless you know the density of the ingredient.

But in your case you're taking the same measurement for both. A gallon of plastic or 128 oz and a bait using 5 oz. Weight has nothing to do with it.

Lamar is 100% correct.

But if you want your finished bait to weigh a specific amount then you need to weigh s finished bait and add weight (glass media or Do-it HDA).

To put things in perspective with out getting to mathematically involved
I usually say compare an oz of cotton or feathers to an oz of let's say lead
a great deal of difference in density and volume comparing the two having the same weight

I might be totally wrong in my thinking but here it goes. I prepare a cup of plastic (new or reheats) and shoot the entire cup for a new mold. 16 cups equals 1 gallon so this should be roughly true of plastic. Then I count how many baits I was able to make from that one cup.

For example, without looking at my notes I believe I was getting about 10-12 Rippers per 3/4-1 cup or just over 160 baits per gallon. Not that I’ve poured that many.  That equates to around $3.50 per cup of Do It plastic or .35 cents per bait.

I would have guessed more. That's basically the same as a gallon of water.

Hey awesome stuff everyone.  Thank you for your responses.  I was playing with some numbers and I was very tired when I asked this question and I didn't word it properly.  But all of your answers answered my question and a thought I had about density. 

And a friend and I are playing with a swimbait mold.  Our estimate was 5oz of plastic for the bait.  But we have already made modifications since and the we will probably be using 3oz of plastic per bait.

The missing piece, 8.25 lb per gallon. By my rough hillbilly math I came up with this:
•8.25 lb per gallon divided by 16 cups=.515 lb per cup.
•.515 lb converts to 8.32 oz per cup.
•8.32 oz per cup divided by (1) 3 oz bait makes 2.7 baits per cup.
•2.7 baits x 16 cups in a gallon should garnish 40 baits total after waste.

If using a 5 oz bait you’re looking at about 25 baits after waste.
