 Just got this 4" G tube from Do-it in the other day and loving it. This is my take on blue craw.

  I bass fish with a tube more than I like to admit. When I use to fish federation at every tournament they gave away bags of tubes. I seriously had a tote full of tubes and I haven't needed to make any. One of my favorite colors is this blue craw and last year I ran out. I told myself I'm not buying a bag of tubes when I know I can make them. I've been making the smaller ones for smallmouth so I had the splines. This 4" G tube is the perfect size. All I did was make the tube in blue and put a 1/4 rod in it and dipped the head in watermelon brown with purple flake. The thing I really like about it is it's going to give me that hand dipped action that the store bought tubes wouldn't. And that makes up for the price of the molds.

Nice work Lamar. I see you noted about hand dipped action. I've seen the comment from others as well over the years. I don't fish tubes much at all and if I do its usually crappie baits. I'm wondering what the difference is in the action between dipped tubes and injected tubes.  I mostly fish walleyes and I know tubes would be great walleye baits too.

Mike from what I have read on the differences of the two is the dipped one has a different action to it because the plastic has a nonperfect thickness that you get with a injected one. Lamar correct me if I miss spoke on this matter.

  That is correct. We had a post on this a while back and I've been playing with it a bit. What I've come up with that works the best for me is I Texas rig the tube with an 1/8 oz. weight and I don't peg the weight. When I fish it I pull it up slow and then snap it. That separates the tube and the weight and allows the tube to swim freely to the bottom. The tube that is hand dipped will dart around differently each time and will get you more bites.

You could Texas Rig it but my first thought is it’s a bad idea because a chatterbait uses a straight hook and I think the tube would try to ball up on you on the hook set.

What if you made a chatterbait out of poison swingtail then you could use what ever hook you want. And would it work to make a solid tube.

  Not say you couldn't do it just for me I make my chatterbaits with an open hook. I've tried them with weed guards and skin hooking the plastic but the hook up rate goes way down. A tube because it's hollow is a bad one for balling up until you learn how to use it on the right hook.
