I Did It (mold mod)
« on: 04/24/19 16:46 UTC »
I have seen lots of complaints on this and other sites about the heat dents that occur in the Senko molds.  Many folks chimed in (as they almost always do on this site, that is why it is so cool).  One of the so called cures was for widening of the gates to allow more plastic to flow.  I filed it away in my memory bank but never acted on it until now.  I took a small round rat tail file and took a little off the edge of each side of the gate for each cavity.  Then I repeated the process on the other half.  Cleaned up the shavings, grabbed a hunk of waste plastic heated it to 340.  Slowly injected the mold.  Held pressure for 15 seconds then topped off.  Upon demolding I found four dent free baits.  Convinced it was a fluke, I grabbed another hunk of plastic and repeated the process.  Same results!  Another mold goes back into the rotation.
I find it incredible that I have to explain to a grown American citizen that taking a knee during the National Anthem is disrespectful.

That's great olsarge. If you're like me, I hate the thought of filing molds in any manner. Glad it worked well for you.

Yep, that is why it took me so long to do it.  In the end, I figured I have made mistakes in life that cost me a lot more than what this mold cost, so what the heck.

And I thought I was the only one who made costly mistakes. :-[
And at 340 degrees, I'd say it was a job well done!
Most molds that dent need to be shot much cooler than that.

Thanks for the sentiment.  Slowly but surely getting better.  Wifes cough has been cut in half and we think the fluid has stopped collecting in her lungs completely but wont know for sure until next week.
