Fishing Line
« on: 01/12/11 18:01 UTC »
Just made my Spring fishing line order and thought I would share it with you.

I am going to try Sufix 832 Braid Lo-Vis Green this year.  It's new and was well received at iCast.  I had been using Fireline or PowerPro but thought I would give this a try.

I also am going to try P-Line FloroClear for the first time.  I'll be curious to see what I think of it.  Hopefully it doesn't have a ton of stretch...

I used Seaguar Fluorocarbon last year, and P-line Fluorocarbon the year before.  Pros and cons with both, but I'm going to save a few bucks and went with the P-line this year.

I'd be curious if any of you have experience with any of these, or what your preference is.  Line is my least favorite part of fishing.  I wish there was a perfect line that did everything...

I'm a big fan of the power pro have used it for years. On my spinning gear, I use 10lb with a fluoro leader. I like to use 65lb for frogging, punching mats, or in heavy cover like big lay downs with lots of branches - no leader. Ive used a bunch of fluorocarbon. I really liked the feel of berkley 100%, thought it was very sensitive, but found myself breaking off way too much. So, now I use seaguar. It seems to have the most stretch out of all the fluoro I've tried. Seaguar is not the most sensitive, but I stick with it, because it never breaks. Jason let us know how p-line and suffix work out.

Power Pro all the way, but I mainly crappie fish but that stuff does wonder for pulling fish out of hedge trees in the summer or metal docks in the winter.

I haven't tried the flouroclear, but I used cx for several years. CX was my all time favourite line till I started using 100% flouro. I don't use anything but flouro or braid now. According to p-lines website flouroclear is slightly strechier than cx. Cx performs and handles like a low strech mono. I now use p-line flourocarbon and powerpro braid. I'm gonna give the suffix 832 a try next time I buy braid.

I got my line and am impressed with the way the Sufix 832 Braid feels.  It's a lot like Power Pro but smoother.  I'll be spooling it up soon and will let you know how it cast, visibility, etc.  Same with the P-Line.

Not sure if this is the same stuff but I have gotten a few reviews on the Suffix braid in action... The below quote seems to sum them all up good.

And I quote "the Suffix line with Gore fibers is garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

This guy broke off several fish punchin mats with the 80lb braid.... He switched back to Power Pro and finished 3rd in his tourney. The 2 lost fish would have sealed the deal.

Jury is out on this line for me...

Dang, that's a great sale.  I don't use yellow line but I'm tempted to at that price!

I use yellow in some very clear water and it doesnt seem to matter to the fish. I dont know about suffix but over time power pro dulls to light yellow/white color.

If your worried about the yellow just take a black magic marker and black out your line, start at your lure and go up 6-8 feet.

I tried the Sufix 832 braid last year cast great, great line for flipping and with jerkbaits.
this line sinks like flurocarbon.
Also split the tip of a black marker and run the yellow line thru it, the yellow line is good to detect strikes

I've used Spider Wire & P-line for years, & love it. Now the Diawa Samari is a very smooth braid, but WOW it's expensive.
