Lil nasty hooks in a steelhead mold
« on: 08/03/19 13:12 UTC »
Anyone have experience pouring the lil nasty hooks in the
DO-IT ROUND STEELHEAD JIG MOLD 1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 oz MODEL 3468?

Mostly wondering how much flash I would have to clean up. I’m wanting to use size 10 and up.

While I haven't try this, I'd be more concerned with hook straightening sing the Nastys especially the smaller hooks. Matzuo hooks as well in the smaller sizes. The Mustad 38500 "skipjack" hook is tough enough to try but I am supposing, based on the query, that you're wanting a light wire type of hook. The Nasty might hold up to stream trout, but larger, stronger fish could straighten a Nasty right out.

Now, if you're using these for panfish I see no problem at all other than some minor flashing possibility.

Thanks for the response. I bought the the JNR-6-A mold to avoid having to clean the flash. As far as the hook straightening I’ve never had a problem with that as long as my drag was set properly. Caught many hybrids up to 25lbs and a few over using the lite wire gold ECs while fishing the float-n-fly for smallies. 😁

a great mold Frank and I'm sure you'll enjoy the jigs coming out of it.

I don't use anything that small but I use 2/0 and 3/0 for my walleye jigs and it's a great hook. I use 10 pound fluorocarbon line and what I like about them is they will straighten out and not break if you snag in a rock. Like you said if you set your drag right I've never lost a fish to that.
