What a find....
« on: 10/08/19 14:35 UTC »
Last week Carole and I noticed a sign along the highway going to Lake City not very far out of town for a new orchard. And distillery. Opened the eyes a bit with that distillery stuff.  Yesterday we took a little putt-putt out on that gravel road and found this nice orchard. While the crux of its apple business is aimed at the wholesale market, they do offer a small retail sales area. But more than anything, that distillery thing had my attention.

They are unique in that all they use to make their distilled booze is apples that did not make it into the sales bins or those that had fallen from trees and the pulp left after pressing cider. They will offer three distilled beverages very soon with two being released here on Weds of this week. One of those two is an Apple Latte that will give rum chatta a serious run for its money. Carole was all over the sample of this drink. I set in on the Apple Crisp, a rum-like booze that's been aged in barrels and is about as smooth as any bourbon out there on the market.....very easy to sip. Even Carole was drinking it straight up. I'll be stopping on the way home from the river tomorrow to pick up a jug of each for our cupboard. And I can't wait to see what the third booze to be offered is like.

What sets this orchard apart from so many can be learned on their website. Here's the link.

Sounds like a neat place. I've never had had anything like that.

Here are the two products I bought this morning....the first day of their legal sales. First retail customer in fact. They're small and they're local so I'll support them.
The Apple Caramel Latte is on the right and gives Rum Chatta and Bailey's a real run. The Apple Crisp is on the left and while it looks like a whiskey or a bourbon or a brandy or dark rum, it had a unique apple background that separates it from those. It is closer to rum than any of them but just isn't rum ....if that makes any sense. Its just plain unique.

They have a third alcohol product they call Shine which hasn't really got any color or flavor other than what comes from the apples which are used to make every one of the liquors. That's the unique part of the alcohol....when its time to distill they use nothing but their apples and local honey. The end result is just crazy good out of the bottle served with nothing but ice. Carole however makes her own Bailey's and is pretty certain that the Apple Crisp will make her stuff even better than when done with good brandy or good bourbon.

Here's a glimpse of the two I brought home today. When the Shine is available I'll get another pic of it.

Looks mighty tasty there Tom on a cold winter night or with some of venison sausage or any one of the yummy treats that you and Carol make.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN
