Does anyone KNOW what this is?
« on: 10/12/19 11:54 UTC »
I have shown this picture to a lot of nature enthusiasts and so far no one knew what it was, or for that matter had ever seen it before.

I eventually cheated and used Google Lens on the picture to figure out what it was.

So, just for fun, has anyone ever seen this before and know what it is? I'm betting no. Don't use Google Lens to find out what it is...but you might be able to figure it out using the internet. I'm interested in does anyone actually know what it is and have seen it before?

I will post the answer in a couple of days if no one knows.

And no, it is not a confused carrot!
It has nothing to do with Trump!
Some hints:
It only lasts about a day.
It was in my wood chip landscaping.
We have had a LOT of rain.
Strangely enough (hint), it was not in the shade.
Yes, it is edible though I don't know why you would!
Tom should know what it is....maybe.

Looks like there should be a pic but there isn’t one. Is it a mushroom?

Your picture doesn't show Andy. I've been around some pretty smelly mushrooms but if its edible and smells bad I am not certain that I have seen it or heard of it.  On another note, my oyster mushrooms have been nothing but a dining pleasure this fall....and they don't smell bad.

Two things that would keep me from eating them is they smell of rotting meat and they use flies as pollinators (hence the smell of rotting meat).
