How to straighten "bent" plastic baits
« on: 01/19/20 12:38 UTC »
It's deep into winter here in Minnesota which for me means it's time to reorganize all my baits. (been doing it since I was a kid!)

In every box, I seem to have some baits with bent legs or more commonly with my "chunk" type trailers bent tails/flappers.

An easy way to fix them is to boil a cup of water in the microwave and dip the bent part into the hot water a few times. Press the bent part straight, and re-dunk into boiling water.

Does anyone do it in a different way?

Andy

I don't guess I ever gave it that much consideration . I just chunk 'em and hope it all works out. But if I ever need to buy a bait I know now who to look up.

I boil them all in a pot for a few min and lay them on a flat surface to cool.

I'm on track with Andrew and 21xdc for straightening bent baits. I don't resort to this very often but when I do its done in this fashion.

I always save them and give them to my buddy when we're out fishing and he asks me for a bait. He asked me one time how come all your baits have air bubbles, dents and bent legs on them ?  I told him mine don't just yours do.  :P

As OCD as I am on other things, bent baits don't bother me a bit... since the sick and the lame are supposed to be evolutionary targets, bent baits should translate into more attraction.
