Properly Maintaining Your Injector?
« on: 03/09/12 11:42 UTC »
So, I started to notice little crumb pieces of soft plastic building up inside my injector toward the top and out of my finger reach to clean it so, what I did, was take the injector apart which allowed me to get to that upper portion of the injector and clean it. Which, by the way, made everything much MUCH smoother! Now, My questions are can I prevent that from happening? Also, on the O rings how do I properly maintain them? How often should I swap them out for new ones? The injector is as equally important as the molds themselves so, keeping the injector smooth is very critical! Thanks!

Hi Steve,

We use out injectors every day and have yet to rebuild one.  Once in a blue moon I put some worm oil in them and wipe them out.  I did replace the o-rings in one just so I could provide help to someone if they needed it.  I think they are overall pretty low maintenance (at least that has been my experience).  I think I would treat them like the tires on your car, keep an eye on them, check them for signs of damage, provide maintenance as needed.

Thank you, Jason and yes, I think you're right as they don't seem to need quite as much maintenance as one would think. I think your worm oil idea is a good one! I will be keeping an eye on those O rings. Watching for wear like you do you tires was a good way to put it thank you!

You can tell if the plunger begins to drag a little or stutter when depressed and nothing in the barrel. I take mine down to pieces and lube it up with just a hint of worm oil and its good to go for another while. Its good to get the plastic fragments out of the barrel from behind the plunger periodicly and I do my cleaning when I don't have something else to do..

I lube my Injectors with Shad Oil.  An initial cleaning of a new Injector is necessary, but like Jason mentioned, an occasional cleaning and lube are all that seems to be needed.  Sometimes I've used Heat Stabilizer, but lately I've went to the Shad Oil.  All I do is push the Tip off and drip a little Shad Oil around the O-Ring.

I would need to double check with Diane, but we (she) normally oils them before shipping as part of our cleaning and QA.

Same here..I push a paper towel through it a few times the get all the chunks out after I spray WD-40..Then put some worm oil in the barrel and slide the plunger to spread it.
