Been mowing....
« on: 06/25/20 13:53 UTC »
....at the cabin and doing some time on the breakwater casting for whatever is dumb enough to hit. Had one hook-up on a Herring but the soft mouthed critter pulled off so I never got to smell like fish.

Had some interesting wildlife this trip. Tree frogs were plentiful on our evening walks to the small lake on the property. Carole was weeding one of her flower beds when the Sandhill Cranes came walking out of one of the rails, walked right past her and back into the woods on a different trail. This little guy showed up at noon on Weds and was in and out of the yard the rest of the day and was there when I got up at 5 this morning.

The first couple trips to the breakwater I fished only a 4" Ripper and the new 3.8" Twister Tail grub on the Swim head, 5/8 ounce for casting weight and quick sinking. I had trout follow each of the baits on the retrieve but they wouldn't commit to the hit. A couple of these fish were in the 12-15 pound range. The Herring hit a spinner but the hooks were a bit large and the fish came unpinned right at the wall.

Both the Ripper and that big twister have outstanding action on the retrieve. Very happy with the way they looked in the water. The top couple feet of the water has reached about 50 degrees now and Cohos, lakers and the big influx of Herring won't be far off. Next trip up in a couple weeks should be interesting.

All of the cabin feeders are way out of a bear's reach.
