Well I am screwed
« on: 12/12/20 13:08 UTC »
I have known for some time now that I actually prefer hand pouring over injecting.  Covid pretty much cemented that as I found myself hunkered in my garage pouring away.  I have added 5 new hand pour molds to my collection in recent months and have plans for several more.  I recently pored my first triple color (sexy shad) and quickly followed that with a light hitch and I am a goner.  I have gone thru 6 gallons of plastisol this year and I need more (keep in mind I just make baits for myself).  This is indeed a slippery slope.  Anyone else prefer hand pouring?
I find it incredible that I have to explain to a grown American citizen that taking a knee during the National Anthem is disrespectful.

Lol. You must have very steady hands. Me, not so much, thus injection is the mode I follow.

I do use a teaspoon or a modified tablespoon to do some small bait belly pours but not often.

Your kidding right?  I shake like a goat crappin soup cans.  Two hands to pour nothing less will do.

I really enjoy hand pouring but do more injection now days. I would like to pick up a nice hand pour swim bait mold to play with.

If 5 is all you’ve went through in a year you don’t have a problem. I go through around 20 a year for me & a buddy. Lol

20 gallons of plastic in a year? That's almost two gallons a month! When do you find time to fish? (LOL) I haven't tried hand pouring; I know you have to let the colors sit in the mold before pouring the next color so they don't mix, but I'm not sure what to watch for in the plastic to set up. Going to try it soon as I get done pouring lead.

I just bought two hand pour swim bait molds. You can make some cool swim baits but it's a learning curve for sure. The one thing I have been doing between pours is hit it with a heat gun first before you pour and then when the bait is all poured but still in the mold hit it again to level it all out.

Let me say that again Gary. I go through about 20 a year & that includes injecting lures too.

20 gal. Should be enough bait’s for three life times unless your pouring large Muskie bait’s.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

Do you remelt the used bait’s ?  I use too fish 285+ days a year and just surprised at the volume. I’ve used 15 gallons total.
