WTB! Anyone pouring 7" Fat Senko Style Baits?
« on: 02/08/21 21:51 UTC »
I'm looking for someone who pours 7" senko style baits, that are 1/2"-5/8"  thick, and willing to do some custom colors.

I want 3 color combinations, and at least 25 of each color. If that's not enough to make it worth doing, I'm willing to talk about it.

I don't pour plastics, but do pour various jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits & other lead so maybe a trade/ and/or & buy, or whatever can be worked out if you need something. I have around 370 molds for pouring lead, so a good variety.

If anyone here pours them and is interested, please let me know. Thanks!
Jim

You might be hard pressed to find that here as the biggest Senko mold Do-it produces is 6" (with 3/8 diameter).

Thanks efishnc! I had to ask, and figured someone might.

I'm having a hard time finding anyone who makes them that size. I found a few packs from an Ebay seller, but the guy told me he had someone making them, and that person stopped due to the covid virus.

I'll use what I can get, but would like to have some specific colors that I can't find in smaller baits either.

Might be time to start pouring my own plastics.  ::)

Don't do it bigjim, it's too addictive. :D :D
I looked into some 7" senko style fat worm molds. Looks like BTS and basstackle.com has them.
I have been considering buying a Senko style mold, but haven't decided on a size.
Does the 7" have an advantage over the smaller sizes?

Lines-
I started out with just the original (5") version, but I have since become a fan of having a size above (6") and a size below (4") the original... this allows me to bump things up for more aggressive situations like during pre-spawn or step them down when playing the finesse game in the dog days of summer.

The 7" Senko is more worm than I would want to use on a regular basis, but I'm guessing it just plays to the bigger fish in the south.

Thanks Efishnc, I'll have to ask around to see what the guys around here think. My brother fishes some bass tournaments up in Missouri, I'll see what he thinks too.

Ok, here's the deal! I use them as ned rig baits and cut them in half, I haven't done well with the typical ned rig baits, but cutting senko type baits about 3 1/4" to 3 1/2" long and I've caught fish on them. IMO, the ned baits have a profile, but not much else. The senko shape falls differently and has a better wiggle to it, even the fat ones.

The baits I want, have different color tips, on both ends. Cut them in half & I get two baits of the same color. I can find various baits with the tip colors, but they're thinner baits too. I want a better profile, longer length and the same senko shape. That's the secret, so don't tell anyone!  ;D

I've also used 6" and at 3" long, I still don't get as many bites. Just personal preference and where I fish, but it's been working for me.

Lines, you don't have to tell me about the addictive part, I know that all too well already. I have enough fly tying supplies & hooks now to fill a small fly shop, and over 370 molds for pouring lead, several thousand hooks for that too. so I'm addicted bad anyway.  :P

JIM-

What is your preferred color combo (if you don't mind sharing)?

Also, 370 lead molds?... (I'm presuming you're not counting individual cavities when you make such a statement)... how many are unique versus duplicates for production?

No sir, I have over 370 individual molds, although some are duplicates, which have been modified for producing other items. For example, I have the poisontail mold that I use for jigs, and another that has been modified for pouring spinnerbaits. Those are few however and I don't have any duplicates otherwise except the lure body mold. I have 3 of them, one having been modified to pour tube jigs, and the other two, I use when pouring production lure bodies.

Most I have are Do It, and I have a bunch of Hilts, and some other older brands such as Lil mac, Herter's, Palmer & Ament, , and some old customs obtained from various sources. I have one Collins mold too.

The colors for those plastics, are a baby bass with chartreuse tips, a greenpumpkin, with blue and gold glitter, and chartreuse tips, and a watermelon that has blue, gold and purple glitter, with hot pink tips. Maybe some holographic glitter in some too.

I've seen one green version with red tips too I want to try, but have someone who pours them, and they're not the 7" either. That is a color this young man pours that I think might work well here. Green is a good color for Santee.

These aren't really anything special, just not being produced in the size I want.

This is some of my molds, two & three deep on the pegboard. I've rearranged the pegboard since this was taken, and added a bunch more molds too. I think I had around 280 molds when I took this photo.

Yeah, you got me beat by a long shot as well... your pics make me feel like my condition isn't all that serious (yet).

In my own defense, I bought my first mold at age 17, and I'm 65 now, so wasn't something that I did overnight. Also, our bills got paid, so not like I shirked my obligations to buy molds or other tackle making supplies.  ;D

It's still cheaper than booze, drugs, cars, chasing women and gambling!  ::)

And more addicting... I never got hooked on any of those things you mention, but I did with tackle making... (as my avatar undeniably shows).  :-[
