DD Gill
« on: 03/04/21 10:26 UTC »
I acquired a DD Gill mold this winter.  As the season approaches, I am trying to think about how I'm going to fish this bait.  I can see it fished on the back of a bass jig.  I can see it rigged on a weighted hook.  It looks like a bluegill, but it could look like a craw trailer on a jig.

So does anyone have any feedback on ways that they have used this bait and been successful?

I look forward to hearing about your experiences.

Thank you,

Marc

I have the mold but honestly haven't fished it much.  I think it was Andrewlamberson who talked about using it at ice out, fishing it near the surface for pike looking for an easy meal.

In late fall we see lots of large pike in relatively shallow water while we fish crappies. Lots of sunfish will be in the area and when one gets hooked up the pike come charging in and will often rip a sunnie right off the jig. I'd bet that early ice out would show similar activity.

I can vouch for the dying fish and big pike in the spring because I used to have a buddy who at that time would have rather fished pike with frozen smelt (in shallow bays) than walleyes in the spring.

I fish it like a dying fish. Sideways jerk jerk play back.  I thought DD stood for dying dinner. Just my guess anyway.

I fish it Texas rigged just like you would a beaver bait. It's a great bait for skipping docks too.

Good to see you back Marc . Plenty of ways to fish that bait I like a weightless hook fished over the top of pads .
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN
