Nothing but great things to say and come away with from Orlando. We had a lot of positive feedback and attention to all of our new product releases which was encouraging and it was great to make contact with and see everyone again after taking last year off. As a whole I think the footprint of the show was smaller than years past but the energy around our products in particular and tackle craft was very evident and high. We shot several in booth videos this year with various media companies which I’m sure we’ll see being released over the course of the next few weeks. It was one of the better shows that I’ve attended and of course the food never sucks in Orlando!

So, not intending to come across as a horse's backside, but, why have all these new releases when we cannot find stock of the jig molds that have been out for an extended period? Would it not make more sense to get stock numbers back up before creating new designs?

Also, it just seems to me like Do-It has decided to make soft plastic molds the priority, and shuffle jig molds to the back of the line. Please tell me this isn't so!

This has been discussed in depth over the past few months and the reason for the back-up in mold production can be spelled in a word: COVID. Also, jig designs are about maxed out in the industry. Darned few new productive head designs can be made anymore, whereas the soft plastic industry is constantly on the move and Do-It needs to expand that area to stay competitive. While the company is still playing catch-up from the covid crisis it still has to move forward with new products. Like it or not, that's how it is.

Ctom,
1st off, I was not speaking to new jig mold designs. I was speaking to getting more production. As far as I know, making a mold is the same as making a different mold.
2nd, you can scream "COVID" to the mountaintops, but, there is absolutely no reason to focus on new molds, when Do-It has not caught up with production of current molds. Do-It owns the market. They could NEVER have a new design, and would still have the lion's share.
The COVID excuse is just that, an excuse, when you are focusing on bringing new designs to the market, and abandoning the long time customer base.

Pretty much sums it up.

I guess it be interesting to see what molds the poster was after. I’ve been able to basicly find 98% of the molds I’ve been looking for online, or on EBay. It’s always fun watching eBay and seeing a cool mold you’ve never seen before show up.

Coosa - Happy to hear you out and appreciate the call-out! I'm sure your questions and thoughts aren't just exclusive to you.  No excuses on our end, but I'm happy to explain some of the processes and thought that supports how we've handled our business through the challenges we've all had the last 18 months.  We, absolutely, got ourselves into our uncomfortable inventory position, one that Do-it has never seen or experienced in its history.  That being said, we are on a good path moving forward.  We are now each day running 3-4 molds that haven't been run through our foundry in months, some maybe for almost over a year!  That is exciting news! And while the lion's share has never been our goal, satisfying our customers, new and old, with quality products is. We made a lot of change over the last 18 months.  We added shifts and increased our production capacity with new and innovative technology which has also improved our quality.  We are making more molds now, than we ever have before.  New product is a very important part of our industry and is an integral part of our business.  It’s the growth catalyst that keeps the tackle industry exciting and moving forward.  Wired2Fish’s ICAST New Product page is one of the most clicked on fishing tackle webpages on the internet every year.  New product ideas generally take 1-3 years from inception of an idea to a finished shippable product.  There are a lot of moving parts and each day is an important day in each new product's progress.  Many of the new products we released at the show were ideas that had been slated well prior to 2020 some as far back as 2018.  Around this time last year, we made the decision to focus our new product efforts for the coming season around molds and programs that would not get in the way from a timing or process standpoint in any of our machine or foundry processes.  You’ll notice we only had one new lead mold release (Weedless Midwest Finesse); And with the exception of one soft bait mold, the molds we released had already been completed from a design standpoint as we’d already released them in a different series in the past.  I mention that point because the “New Products” that have the biggest effect on our processes and take up machine or foundry time, are those that require a lot of design and machining time while we test and go through sampling processes.  We will go through upwards of 20 different renditions of a bait in some instances.  That can definitely eat up a lot of machining and running time and that’s time that has not been available since 2019 up until now.  Focusing our efforts on molds that required little new designing and programming while being creative with new offerings for our customers and finding products that would be exciting and supplement and foster growth was our primary new product development goal through 2021. New powder paints, new 3D eyes, new air brush paints, and all 26 of our new crank blanks were all projects that have no effect on any of our foundry or molding processes or mold production. So, while it may seem like the breadth of our new product launches going into the fall is large this season, it’s very lean on the mold side for the very reason you have pointed out.  Our focus on producing inventory and molding products that we haven’t run for some time is a priority and we are making great progress weekly.  In essence, we found a way through strategic planning to still make a splash and a wave with our new product offerings while having little to no effect on our production of our other products. I hope this helps answer some of your questions.  We are in no way trying to alienate our long-time customer base.  Far from it!  We appreciate and value every single one of our customers.  Your value and input are important to us.

If I see a production schedule I'll let you know what I find out. From what I can tell though on my end, they are on order to be produced in our foundry which is a good indicator.
