Fry comparison?
« on: 05/05/22 23:11 UTC »
Does anyone have the ability to show the different fry baits side by side?

1" Nano
1.75 small fry
2.25 small fry
2.5 fry
3.5 super fry

I am looking to see what they look like together.   I have the 1.75 fry and looking to maybe add another one (or two)

I can shoot the 1" Nano, the 2-1/4", 2-1/2" and super fry up later today. The 1.75" I no longer have.

The 1.75" was the very first mold I bought at Caney Creek to start injecting plastics but sold the mold several years ago because I wasn't entirely happy with the baits action....or should I say lack of. It caught fish yes, but I was looking for more tail action. The 1.75" and the 2-1/4" have the same exact body, but the 2-1/4" has a tail 1-1/2" long. The 1.75" fry has a 1" tail and that extra 1/2" makes all the difference in the 2-1/4". The 2-1/4" and the 2-1/2" baits share the same 1-1/2" tail length and the 2-1/2" model having the extra 1/4" in body length.

Don't let me mis-lead you with the 1.75" puppy, that's not my intention. The 1.75", 2-1/4" and 2-1/2" versions are perhaps the easiest of all of the baits and molds to manipulate in bait making with outstanding results. All three can be hand poured in the belly cavities as easy as twin injected. Right from the mold all three take eyes very well. All three can be done using the "E-core" injection efishnc came up with a couple years ago. And as I have shown recently the baits can be tweaked even further by using the lure dip products to enhance coloring to create very, very natural looking end products. It all depends on how much time you want to spend on creating what you want. Doing tail colors is a snap.

Right now I am using the 2-1/4" Fry almost exclusively on cold water crappies and doing very well. I have used the 2-1/2" with almost the same level of success but have just sort of settled on the 2-1/4". I really, really love the action and profile in cold water. Both are great sizes right from the mold in solid or laminated colors but with a clear coat both become more realistically sized in the body.

As mentioned I'll do all of them and grab a picture for you later today and will see if I can find any of the 1-3/4" version to throw in. Just me personally if I were to choose another fry mold it would be the 2-1/4" or the 2-1/2" just based on results from this spring's fishing and results.

Here you go anyfish....

They're in the order you listed them. The 2.25" has the same body as the 1.75" you have. As mentioned, the tail on the 2.25 is 1/2" longer. The tails on both of the 2" versions is the same and you can see the difference in body length between the two.

I wish Do-it was still offering sample packs, but last time I checked, that isnt currently an option.  Not sure if it is tied to COVID, work load, or change in practices.  For now I have to rely on the help of others :D
