Forum Moderating!

Hey folks, I've noticed as I'm sure you all have, an increase in spam here.


If the site needs any extra help with that, I would be glad to volunteer! 

I moderate on some other forums, Admin a Facebook group too, so have some experience.

I usually check in here about everyday anyway, and I hate seeing the spam crap being posted!

We are usually on every day, but sometimes difficult to keep up with.  Appreciate it.  We will keep you in mind.

I also volunteered as I can be on here several times a day while working  . We can bring down the ban hammer.

OK, the offer will remain open.  I know it's an issue that probably anyone who owns a forum now is dealing with and will likely only get worse.

Dave, yeah, but they keep coming back, they just change names.

I'm constantly reporting the spam. I'd be glad to help moderate also  since i'm on here every day too.

I don't have a clue about moderating, but usually report the spam posts. Does reporting make a difference?

Lines, reporting should send a notice of a problem, then, the moderators see the report,  so yes, it should make a difference. 

Those forums that I moderate, I get an email when there's a report, so will check on it. I check those forums everyday and some days several times just to see what's going on. There's a few folks who report issues frequently, and if not for that, then there's sometimes a delay in response. I appreciate those reports, because people who frequent the forums, don't want to see that crap there and neither do I. I'm sure we all see enough garbage in our daily lives and we use these forums for our interests and to get away from all that crap!

I don't know what benefit it may be to those spammers, but I've found that when they can be removed quickly, they post less often.

What is needed is a check during the weekends three or four times a day. It seems these lowlifes are most active then.

Tom, on a forum that gets the most spam, it's posted at night because of time zone differences. A lot of it comes from Ip addresses in India. I remove and ban at least once a day there.

I'm aware of that, but it seems that there's an increase during the weekends.

I was a  moderator on Yak Angler and when I open up my shop about 6 AM I would always look on there with my coffee and there it was. Sometimes seemed like every night.
