dice or fuzzy baits?
« on: 04/29/26 18:55 UTC »
Is anybody making their own? I thought about getting some silicone ice trays or using a midwest finesse bait cut into & add skirt material to them. Has anybody done this? Would you use hard plastic for the body to make them durable or just use medium? Thanks

I haven't stepped in that hole yet.  I wouldn't use anything like that really, so no incentive to make them.

I have.  I went the ice tray route.  Made 10 or so, got tired of pushing skirt material in and haven't made anymore.  The ones I made were small (bluegill size). They did catch fish but I didn't like the hassle.

Yup...

I use silicone molds of two different sizes. I thread the skirt strands with a large eyed needle. I use medium blend or remelt torn plastics that I've saved up.

Thanks. I ordered a mold & am going to give it a try. I'll only be making them for myself so won't be making that many. I just can't make myself give the prices they want for them or the coike lures. I made some using the midwest finesse lure but haven't got to try them yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Chris thanks. I bought both a square & an octagon shaped silicone ice tray to try. I can put the skirt material in pretty quick so it won't take me long to make a few up. I just want to see how well they work on a deep clear lake like Lake Cumberland. I know the jig head minnow took over back in the fall when the fish really got on shad & they were weighing in very heavy bags for here in the early fall before the water cooled off any at all. They were catching them 35 to 40 feet deep in 80 to 100 feet of water.

Thanks Mike. A buddy mentioned buying the mold from ultra molds so we'll see what happens there but Curts mold would definitely work too.

I agree.  That mold is a fantastic idea.
