« on: 06/24/12 11:39 UTC »
My nephew caught this GIGANTIC Bluegill on a six inch swim worm in green pumpkin.  I don't know what the state record is but I have NEVER seen a Bluegill that big.   :o

Most states put a list of their record fish in their fishing regulation books. Might check it out. Fantastic catch!!

3 lb 8 oz is the state record.   A lot of our state records come from waters in San Diego which is right next to Mexico.  Really warm long growing season with lots of food.  I wish So. Cal was different state because we just don't get the growing season like that up hear.  It is a good one but not 12 months.

Not disclosing the location:   :D

It was a small pond/lake not a big water (i.e. Clear Lake, Berryessa)

20 lb braid on spinning tackle so I guessing not on the line record either.

I am still in shock that he caught it on a 6 inch swim worm   :o

The fish was really obese it looked really prehistoric.  Must have been a really old gill.  I am guessing 10 + years but I really don't know the growth rates of a gill in our area.
