CCM PLASTIC 1ST USE
« on: 08/03/12 16:58 UTC »
What is the lowest temp I can shoot at in molds that have no small appendages . Goofed up my first cup . My IR meter is shot I guess got bubbles like a glass of alkeseltzer  and part of the color turned . Is a long stem digital better and what is the best one . I think this plastic is going to be great . I went ahead and dipped mt baits in the cup I ruined Almost . Believe it or not it cleared up to the point that you really couldn't tell it from the former plastic I finally used up . Thumbs up Jason

Yes - use the digital thermometer.  The IR only measure surface temp and there can be drastic differences in the plastic temp from the bottom to the top of the cup.  Especially if you have a full cup versus 4 oz's.  I have shot it at 310 with no issues for some baits.  I prefer to shoot at the lowest temp I can get away with but on first heat I always try to get it to 350 and let it cool a bit before shooting.

Search thermometers for previous discussion threads...but dump the IR thermometer. (you'll see why in those threads).

Make sure you heat it well to 350 the first time. Then you can use at whatever temp works best for you.
