Pearls, Flip flops, metalflake
« on: 08/09/12 10:53 UTC »
Anyone ever try using pearls and flip flops as they were intended in the Auto painting busines?

I mean a solid base color of plastic and then a clear dip with the effects colors in them.

I think it would give more depth to the colors.

Or how about a solid base color and then put fine glitter in the clear and dip it. Kind if like a metalflake finish on a bass boat.

I also bought some flip flop pearls from an auto paint source. Flip flops make the color change depending on angle you look at it. They generally use a black base coat and then the powder in the clear coat. I have purple that turns to green and green that turns to gold. I tried adding these powders to different color plastic and did not get the effect I wanted. But should work in a seperate clear coat.

I may have to waste some plastic and experiment.

I have Bill. You can get some killer cool results! Of course, I got carried away and did all kinds of crazy stuff that was interesting but not sure the fish would have been as interested as I was.  :D

I really like dipping swims in an iradescent pearl plastic.

Basstrix dips a lot of their swims this way and there are some tube guys that really will blow you away with their dips.

Fun to experiment for sure. Love to see any pics if you do some.

Ive used the flip flops for powder painting jigheads but not in plastics.  Loved the results though!
