I got so exited reading about all this ice fishing jig stuff...and the new Nanofry...that I went downstairs and dug out my red and black plaid WOOL shirt to wear on the porch! :P

sometimes its hard ice fishing to just try new things.  You drill a hole or if you're like me 30.  Start to hole hop; maybe catch a few, then bang someone next to you starts to hammer down.  You try his technique, catch a limit go home. try again. repeat.  All the exploring, with new stuff goes out the door.  Next thing you know the ice is 30 plus inches deep.  Bite is slower hard to try things then.

Jigs for Ice Fishing/Panfishing???

So after all this panfish talk I had to hit the water a little after work. I was lake fishing from the shore and boy did it feel like the first day on the job. The only thing I got to work was the swim fry on a small jig head with steady retrieve. Tried the small fry on a hook with a split shot about 3 feet up the line. Nothing! Tried a 3 inch trout worm the same way and no go. I need some rigging/retrieve pointers on those two. I felt like I've never fished before lol. Silly things are so easy to catch when you're not trying! Mean little crappie/bluegill.

I use a lot of the horizontal jigs. mormyshka, skandia, diamond jigs. I use plastics  95 % of the time. dont forget light line. I use 2lb and lighter. the scandia  jigs I have had chipping problems with them . I tend to use a black jig or neutral color jig and let the different color  plastics to  attract the fish .
