Adding a spot to eggs
« on: 09/13/12 23:02 UTC »
I wonder how one would go about adding a different, very contrasting spot to the eggs I have been pouring?

Would a drop of hot plastic in the mold on the bottom of one half stay in place through the injection process? I think it will but had to ask. I would rather have an idea of if it would work before I try and wind up plugging the first couple eggs and not get the rest to inject.

I Spike-it has something called Gel A Lure. I wonder if you can add spots with it on regular plastic without it coming off?

I use bamboo kitchen skewers to pick up a drop of hot plastic and place it in molds all the time. When you inject, get that plastic slightly warmer and slow down the push of the injector rod....don't rush it. When it does stop hold some light pressure for 5 seconds or so to help the bond.

Gel a lure is a cold process that cant be used with hot plastic.

Why not just put a dot of paint? Simple, durable and easier than trying to put a small drop of plastic in a tiny spot repeatedly.

Lurecraft or Spike It has paint that will work great.

I guess it really doesn't matter how the spot is put on the egg. The only thing I can see being an issue would be visibility of the contrasting color. If the egg isn't rolling so the spot turns up then the contrast is only seen from on specific angle.

A dot of plastic in a contrasting color would be visible from any angle in a transparent egg.

The good is there are lots of options. Can do some of both and see if there is really a difference in their effectiveness.

Sounds like both methods are easy enough to do. One being more labor intensive of course and risk having half injections.
