I use these:

FYI...The PowerZap works fantastic to get paint out of eyes...and melt through PowerPro.

Andy...how do you think the Power Zap would work with powder coated jig heads?
Until next time.

PowerZap is a battery powered hook eye cleaner sold by Panfish Pro (see link above) and I highly recommend it to clean out the eyes of jigs and to cut PowerPro. I also use it to repair some baits. It gets to 2400 degrees in 3-4 seconds.  I would recommend you order an extra tip ...or two...because the wire is a little fragile...and it cost more to ship the tips than to buy them!

I also use it to burn off tiny bits of feathers and such from my trout and bass flies.

Highly recommended!

PowerZap™ II with 2400° of instant Blazing Power. Measures approximately 8.5" in length and 3/4" in diameter. This tool uses two AA alkaline batteries which are included. Also included and not shown is a cap to protect tip. PowerZap™ II is $26.95 each. Item number 101-1002

Denny... @ 2400 degrees....I don't think you'll have any issues! It has worked on any jig I have ever purchased.

Thanks, Andy.  I've had and used a Power Zap for years when tying flies.  It works great on those big striper flies or when you get an errant 16/0 piece of thread over the eye.  I've never considered using it to "melt" the paint (powder coat) from a jig head....dah.  I'll give it a try next time I'm tying some jigs.  I owe you one.
Until next time.

A needle just smaller than the hook eye held in the flame of a alcohol lamp will also clean the eyes.  Hold it in the flame until it starts to glow orange.  This will work for "cured" eyes as well.

Thanks, Paul.  I'll try that as well.  I've been trying to clear the eyes after the first pc dip.  When I first started making jigs I'd cure the heads by hanging them upside down in the toaster oven...big mistake.  The pc would run into eyes and it took an act of God and a couple beseeches to get the eyes cleaned out.  I've since purchased a few clamps that hold the jigs upright when curing (TJ"s Tackle, I think) and that pretty much took care of the problem.  I still get the ocassional clogged eye, but not very often.  Next time I do I'll try your and Andy's tips.  Thanks again.
Until next time.

Denny. You have clamps to hang your jigs upright?   I got to get me some.  I have trouble with paint in the eye. About  one out of three.

If you are getting your eyes clogged during the curing you have overcoated the powder paint.  Swish faster in well fluffed paint or reduce the heating time on the head; or both.  It takes very little time to get a good coat on a correct temperature head. During the curing process there should be very little or no paint running.  I powder paint up to 1.5 ounce lead spoons via dipping.  Working with the 1.5 oz baits makes for a fast learning curve.

Eagle claw makes the 574 jig head. 412 I have a 1/64 oz trout jig head mold if you need some pm me with amount needed ok.  I got some older style 635 hooks.  Not sure if they are made anymore.  If you want some of these here is a picture of a finished jig head.

I like that 574 hook.  Out of all the Jighooks I have, the 574 is the only Bronze hook in my stock.  I use the #1 and 1/0 for my Sacalait stuff, and these 2 sizes will work if a Bass decides to inhale it.
