4'' Carrot,Wittle Wutz-it,orSuper Stinger
« on: 10/23/12 13:27 UTC »
I`m looking a drop shot bait that I can get a laminate plate for. I`m thinking about 4''. Baits will be used for smallies on the Bay of Green bay.The carrot,Wittle Wutz-it,and Super Stinger all look great. Any thoughts? Any used ones out there? I`ll probably end up with all 3,but if you had to choose, which one first?  fsh4fun

The 4 inch carrot is one heckuva drop shot bait. Can't speak of the others.

A bait you might not want to overlook is the 3.5 Inch Super fry.  It can be fished drop shot as well as on a jig head.  Any of the baits you listed would make an excellent drop shot bait.

4" wutzit is a great spring summer/small mouth producer for me! Don't overlook the 4.75" ribbon tail is literally my go to bait for a number of species.

4" Carrot for sure. I fish smallmouth on the Mississippi River in MN and it's been the bait this year. The Carrots are easy to laminate using the Twin Injector or Lami plate.

1. Perfect for dropshot. 4" is my favorite size and works for largemouth and smallmouth.(and walleye and sauger). I got a monster crappie on it too!
2. Great wacky (imo ..the 3" is too short for Wacky..not enough action...and anything over 4" is too big for smallmouth)
3. I use the 4" carrot as a jerk bait...a lot!
4. This fall I've been doing really well with a 3" or 4" carrot on a small single spin (no skirt). Think of it as a big Bett's or big Mr. Twister! You can always cut the head short on a 4"...but you can't make a 3" bigger!
5. I also did well with the 4" on a Carolina Rig this summer. I used a floating walleye jig and fished it wacky or hooked onto the jig.

I've done ok with the Super Stinger...but it just doesn't match the bait profile of what they are chasing right now. It did well when they were chasing shad.

I have the Wutz-it also...but I only use it as a Jerk bait...never thought to try it drop shot (although it can be really good wacky..as an injured shad).

Thanks Andy,I have a 4'' carrot on the way,(used 1 of this site). I see there`s 2 different lami plates, something about where the pin is located. I`ll have to wait until I get it to order the right one. Your not far from me,I`m in the U.P.    Minn. is an awesome state to fish, been there many times for eyes & perch, sorry not a Viking fan though!!I live on Green Bay,excellent for big walleyes & smallies, and I think the carrot will make a great bait to tip a jig for eye`s. What are some of your best colors?  Go Pack.  (sorry had to say that) fsh4fun.

My favorites for small mouth here in south western PA are a translucent watermelon with silver flake and a pearl purple smoke color I make.

My favorite colors for the 4" Carrot have been:
1. Baby bass w black flake over silver bottom (or white bottom)
2. All Silver smoke with silver flake and a little bit of black flake
3.White ...with the head dipped in red
4. Yellow chartreuse with the head dipped in red
5. Electric Snot for smallmouth (Yellow or Green Chartreuse with green/black/copper...whatever...flake)

For walleyes (and lately for bass) I've been using the 3" and 4" carrots on  large safety-pin rigs (like the ones you use on a Mr. Twister for Crappie..but the bigger size I get from Betts), changing the blade to a #4 Colorado in whatever color I want (using a custom colored shad one now) and using 3/8oz Arky jigs (or ball jigs) that have a good bait keeper wire. When I run up into shallow water I can quickly switch to a lighter jig head.

I really like using those "safety pin" wire rigs (Is there a better name?)

Andy...you're pretty impressive.  I hate to be serious with you, but you always seem to come up with clever ideas on rigging, pouring and, most of all, freshwater fishing.  Keep it up.  I look forward to fishing with you one of these days.  If you're ever out my way give me a call.  If it's ever a cold day in Hell, I might even make it up your way.
Until next time.
